2014 was definitely a trying year.
For those of you who don’t know, my mom passed away from metastatic melanoma in February, 2014. It took me 9 months before I was able to pick up a pencil, or paintbrush, or be creative in any way. My mom was my biggest supporter, and to not have her here to share any future creations, was really hard to come to terms with.
Eventually I was able to start painting, but I chose not to continue using colored pencils for the time being, since that was the last medium I had worked in when my mom was around. I had done a couple of watercolor paintings before my mom passed away, and really enjoyed it… so that’s what I continued using.
It was extremely hard to paint knowing she wasn’t here to see any finished works — she was always so excited to see them. I would not have been able to continue my art if I didn’t feel like my mom was supporting me from above.
In the past 4 months I’ve completed 12 watercolor paintings. The first 3 (‘Tears’ series) had no reference image — they were all created inside my mind. That was very different for me, because I usually paint from a reference photo or still life. I have yet to upload these 12 paintings to this site, but I plan on doing that soon — so stay tuned!
Thanks to those of you who continue to support me and welcome to all my new friends! Please do stop by my Facebook page and say hello!
